The Difference... (between winning and losing)
As a tennis player and tournament director I can see “the difference”, I know “the difference” but there is no way for me as a coach and instructor to teach this difference except through competition. With the creation of the Super Saturday Tournaments our group here in Southern Utah has formed a nucleus of players which are building upon successful competitive experiences. The maxim “Winners Play Winners” is what our 21 st Century Tennis Programs are all about. From the combination of all levels of players in age, sex and skill the Fast Format tournaments offer a way for each player no matter their ability, age, sex, skill or confidence to compete and win.
From this competitive foundation some players will find this special difference and become a winner through their desire, commitment and drive. Unfortunately most will not find in themselves that extra ingredient needed to become a winner. Just as in life distractions, negativity, lack of desire, confidence, will power and other distractions end up creating a loser. No amount of coaching, promotion, playing, wishing will make up for what needs to grow in the player to become a champion and a winner.
In the Super Saturday series we have 5 years of experience seeing players every weekend come and compete in our programs. These are different than the USTA or other tournaments as they only call for players to compete against another player in a two out of three set match using a three game no tiebreaker format. It is extremely challenging to win the events as they call for the player to match up against generally 5 different opponents of successively better skill and competitive levels in three to four hours. It is similar to playing a 5 set match yet versus 5 different players.
With tiebreakers not included the challenge to break serve is mandatory to win a match. In 5 years there has not been on match out of over 3,000 matches where both players have held serve throughout the tournament.
Back to the Difference, What is it. Well it is a special element that turns a loser into a winner. That element is winning. Winning changes everything for a player as it validates and promotes success. Winning is everything has been said and what it means is that winning is a completion and makes a champion. You cannot be a champion without winning and our tournaments teach winning. Winning is the Difference.
